The Accident & Orthopedic Service (AOS) of the National Hospital is the Level 1 Trauma Care Centre in Sri Lanka. I worked here while getting experience in handling trauma patients under the supervision of a group of most senior medical specialists of the AOS multidisciplinary team. I provided initial clinical care and performed wound management (including suturing), immediate care for orthopaedic problems and screening for possible life-threatening impacts of various accidents.
I worked in the Emergency Unit of the Lanka Hospitals PLC, one of the most reputed private hospitals in Sri Lanka that provide medical, surgical and paediatric emergency care and emergency ambulance services.
I have compleated a master's degree in Community Medicine at the Post Graduate Institute of Medicine of the University of Colombo (Sri Lanka ) while continuing my clinical practice in Pvt sector hospitals.
I have worked in this primary care institute, which provided emergency care services, OPD services, and maternal and child care services, including normal deliveries and in-patient care under a consultant physician and a consultant paediatrician. I was specially trained to manage a haemodialysis unit and worked as the first doctor of the newly established facility during my work period.
Worked as a Medical Officer in the paediatric unit of the District General Hospital - Nawalapitiya (Sri Lanka), providing both in-patient and clinic care for children under two consultant paediatricians, following the successful completion of the internship.
During my one year of internship as a medical practitioner, I did gynaecology and obstetrics and paediatrics as my two subject areas each for six months.
I received excellent clinical exposure in both appointments, including neonatal ICU, as a part of my pediatric appointment.
During the obstetrics and gynaecology appointment, I had an opportunity to attend many routine and emergency caesarian sections and other gynaecological surgeries, including laparoscopic interventions.
Intern medical officers also did blood cross-matching and DT for emergencies at night shifts, and I could get that training.
