- Prepare and issue weather forecasts for various sectors, including marine, fisheries, disaster management, water management, agriculture, construction, defense, national security, and emergency services.
- Update mass media, the department's official website, and Facebook page.
- Respond to inquiries from the general public.
- Issue warnings for adverse weather conditions such as cyclones, storms, heavy rain, strong winds, heat index, severe lightning, frosts, and coastal inundation.
- Supervise and coordinate the work of other meteorologists, technical officers, and meteorological observers in the National Meteorological Centre.
- Stay informed about modern techniques and technological developments through regular studies.
- Additionally, I work for the seasonal forecasting division collaborating with the team to prepare seasonal forecasts and conduct studies and research on climate and climate change-related issues.
- Monitor and assess tsunami and earthquake activities, issuing advisories and warnings as necessary to ensure public safety when necessary.
- Preparing monthly weather reports, working for APN on behalf of the Department of Meteorology Sri Lanka.
- I am further, lecturing on weather forecasting, climate change, and disaster management to university students and other parties who need it.
