Dr. Thanya Cooray

A medical doctor who is professionally skilled and experienced in the field of 'Obstetrics & Gynecology' since 2020 with a passion for advocacy in sexual and reproductive medicine. Well-experienced in successfully managing obstetric and gynecological care, including antenatal and postnatal patients, normal and instrumental deliveries, and surgical procedures. Proven track record in patient counseling and health education. Skilled in medical advocacy through innovative projects, such as "මව් සුමිතුරැ" and "කුළුදුල් මව්ිය සත්කාරය". Excited to bring expertise and commitment to the forefront of the team and the mission.

• President's Award for Girl Guides in 2005
• National Youth Chess Championship [Under 18 girls] 2007
• Represented Sri Lanka at the World Youth Chess Championship 2007 in Antalya, Turkey.

Collaborated in the following projects as a member of the committee:

• මව් සුමිතුරැ- A pioneer project that is implemented by the Obstetric and Gynecological unit of Base Hospital Mahiyanganaya. This project aims to build a patient-friendly environment within the maternity complex. Further enhancing patient education and familiarity with the staff of the hospital.
• කුළුදුල් මව්ිය සත්කාරය - A workshop specifically focused on "first-time parents" carried out on every 3rd Saturday of each month. This workshop is focused on educating couples regarding the ward setup and familiarizing them with the labor room and operating theater atmosphere before they get admitted for the delivery.
